Dental Frequently Asked Questions – Amherst, MA
Quick Answers For Your Dental Questions
How often should you visit the dentist? What should you do if one of your teeth hurts? How long does it take to get dental implants? These are some of the most common questions we get every day, and you’ll find the answers to them and more below! You’re always invited to send us questions online or give us a call—we strive to empower our patients with the knowledge they need to take great care of their smiles.
How often should I get a checkup and cleaning?
Even if you aren’t experiencing any obvious issues with your teeth, we recommend coming to see us for a checkup and cleaning at least twice a year. Professional cleanings allow us to remove cavity-causing plaque and tartar from those parts of your mouth your toothbrush and floss simply can’t reach, and regular exams help us catch and treat minor problems as early as possible.
When should my child visit the dentist for the first time?
You should schedule a dental appointment for your child as soon as you see that first little tooth pop up through their gums, or no later than their first birthday. This visit will just consist of a brief exam and give you a chance to ask questions about your child’s growing smile. Once they reach the age of 2-3, they’ll start attending regular checkups and cleanings just like Mom and Dad.
One of my teeth really hurts. What should I do?
If you have persistent dental pain, whether it’s major or minor, you should definitely give us a call right away. A toothache could be the sign of a major underlying dental problem that will only get worse without professional care. Before you can make it to our office, you can reduce any discomfort by taking an OTC medication and/or placing a cold compress on your face.
How long does it take to get dental implants?
The answer to this question can vary quite a bit depending on the patient. Simple cases involving just one tooth may take as little as 3-6 months from beginning to end, while more complicated ones may require close to a year. When you come to see us for a consultation, we’ll be able to outline every aspect of your dental implant process, including the timeline, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.
Are CEREC crowns just as good as ones made by a dental lab?
At Amherst Dental Group, the answer is a definitive “Yes!” Even though our CEREC crowns can be made in just an hour or 2, they look just as natural and are just as strong and durable as any crown created by an outside lab. With CEREC, you save time while still enjoying premier quality.
Will you accept my dental insurance?
Amherst Dental Group is happy to accept many different dental insurance plans, and we’re in-network with some of the most popular providers. To learn more about how we can help you maximize your benefits, give us a call today with your policy information handy.
